Lucille Koppen, age 90, of Burnsville, MN and formerly of Buffalo Center, died Saturday at The Rivers in Burnsville, MN.

Funeral services will be 11 AM Friday April 13, 2012 at the United Methodist Church in Buffalo Center, IA. with Pastor Deb Devine officiating.

Visitation will be Thursday April 12 from 5-7 PM at Winter Funeral Home in Buffalo Center.

Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Buffalo Center.

Lucille Lois Koppen was born on July 3, 1921 in Titonka, IA, the daughter of Ernest and Martha (Paulsen) Peterson. She grew up in Titonka where she attended high school, graduating in 1938. Lucille then moved to Algona where she worked in the conservation office for 2 ½ years and as a teller and bookkeeper in the bank for three years. She was an exceptional skeet shooter and joined her father Ernest in numerous area tournaments where they often dominated all competitors.

In 1941, she met Wayne Koppen. They were engaged in 1942 and married on March 12, 1944. They farmed with Wayne’s father Otto Koppen and brother Orville Koppen until 1948 when they moved to a farm west of Rake and raised six children until retiring in 1990.

After Wayne’s death in 1991, Lucille moved to a home in Buffalo Center, Iowa. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Buffalo Center. She served on the United Methodist Women’s Board, the Mary Circle and was the acting church secretary into her mid 80’s.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wayne, a daughter, Meredith Ann, sisters Lela Bentley and Deloris Reckliefs and brothers Eugene, Merle, Larry and Richard Peterson, and one grandchild, Kristofer Koppen.

Lucille is survived by six children, 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. They include Carol (Koppen) Wagner of Mesa, AZ, husband Jim and daughters Julie and Heather; James Koppen of Pine City, MN, his wife Kandis (Hagedorn) and children, Nikole, Chelsey and Aaron; Roger Koppen of Jefferson, IA, his wife Lynette (Held) and daughters Shannon, Wendy and Allison; Ronald Koppen of Algona, IA and his children Krystina and Jeremy; Neil Koppen of Hamburg, NY, his wife Lin (Van Dyke) and daughters Brittany and Jenna; and Janet (Koppen) Hanson of Apple Valley, MN and her two daughters Whitney and Natalie. Other survivors include sisters-in-law, Genevive (Koppen) Wayne and Irene Peterson.
